Taken from the Department of PS website for Arizona:
If you need a criminal history record check or a letter of clearance for the purposes of immigration, visa, or adoption, Arizona law does not permit the central state repository to provide information for these purposes. A copy of this statement can be printed by clicking on the following link. If you need to have the letter notarized and customized for your particular needs to include your name, date-of-birth, social security number and address. Contact the Criminal History Records Section by telephone at 602-223-2222 for the letter to be completed for you (instead of printing the one below).
Looks like if you are a Zonie you get no love and must do the FBI check.

There are quite a few states that will only provide that information at the request of the employer... North Carolina is one. here's a link to the info expats in Thailand & Vietnam refer to when preparing to venture there. I'm thinking, if I've already got to get the FBI check... Vietnam ....where the cost of living is lower and folks are way friendlier...salaries are going up...

I am an Arizona resident. I was very excited when I saw that the state repository would do a fingerprint search for $47 and this would include a search of FBI records. But I was also very angry when I found out that they wouldn't help me for immigration purposes. The most that Arizona residents can get from the Department of Public Safety is a laminated fingerprint clearance card which is about the size of a driver's license. It states whether or not the person in question has a criminal record or not. The card is useful if you are trying to get a job in a hospital, public or private school, and so forth as you don't have to have your fingerprints run every damn time you apply.
The Korean Embassy and the Korean Consulate both stated that they would accept a local police search, so I had the police department do a search and see if they could find anything. They didn't, so I had the letter notarised and apostilled.
I did live in California for a while recently and am sending my fingerprints off to Sacramento just in case the Korean government wants fingerprints. Their process is very fast and the secretary of state will apostille the results. It will also involve a search of FBI records, too. |
