How does one go about getting a Vietnam tourist visa? Is it possible to get one ahead of time or must one arrange it ahead of time from Korea? |

you can't get it on arrival, if that's what you mean. |

I know Kangsantravel.com can set it up for you. Lots of other travel agents will probabl ydo the same.
I tried to call the Vietnamese consulate aout getting a visa. They told me that I COULDN"T do it directly through them and had to use an outside agent. So they gave me the number of someone who seemed like somebody's cousin's brother's friend when I called. SKETCHY.
On anotehr note, we have a LP Vietnam that we've never even cracked b/c our trip got cancelled if you are interested in buying it. |

I got mine through Xanadu Travel in Itaewon. They said I COULD go to the embassy myself, or just have them do it. I let Xanadu do it. |

If you are buying your tickets from a travel agent, then they can do it for you. It's also much easier than doing it yourself since the Vietnamese Embassy isn't open very many hours. |

You can go directly to the embassy in Seoul to get your visa. It takes a couple of days and you have to go back to pick it up. If you call the embassy they usually say that you cant mail in the visa, but if you tell him you live far from Seoul and cant possibly make it here twice to deal with the visa, he will reluctently give you the address and let you mail in your documents (the he I refer to is Mr. Kim who deals with tourist visas). |

You don't really need your passport to apply for the Visa. You can apply with a copy of your main passport page. Then when the visa is ready you can take in your passport and it takes them about an hour to stick in the whatever into your passport.
The hours are 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4/5pm. THat's what I heard today when I was there. Also they can do it in about 4 days if you ask them nicely.
My passport won't be in my hands until the 17th of December because it is with Canadian immigration and being sent to me now. So if you don't have a passport or don't have enough time to get a visa before going to Vietnam you can do the above and apply with a copy of your passport page and when it is ready go back to the embassy and wait an hour while they stick in the visa.
ALso if you are from Pakistan, Nigeria and 3 to 5 other countries you need a Korean company or some kind of sponsor to get your visa. Something along those lines. The Nigerian guy infront of me got rejected and told to get a his Korean company to go to immigration and get some form or something like that.
Also take pen with you as there are no pens there. Also don't wait in the waiting area. Knock on the other door and ask for a form to fill in because there aren't any in the waiting area and it would mean you'd have to take 2 numbers in the waiting line. Wrap up warm too. It's an old crappy building. |
