My contract finishes at the end of Feb - is it possible to renew it before the new regulations come into effect (ie before Dec 15)?
Are there regulations on how far you are into a contract and renewing?

| It has to be 2 months before your contract ends. The end of Feb is more than 2 months, so I don't think you can do it. |

How can extending a visa be based on a contract?
What if you and your employer nullify the contract halfway into the period of the contract and make a new one? If that second contract was for a year, then in theory you would have 6 more months.
I wonder if you could just sign a new contract 10.5 months into your stay, and then sign a new one giving you time to renew your visa.
I can understand limiting the visa period, but if immigration sees that you will be making a certain amount, why can't you extend the visa? |

| Well, actually, you don't go by the contract. You go by the date on your ARC. The ARC is actually your visa. But you still can't have it extended until there are no more than 2 months left on your ARC. |

| I don't see how the new visa regs. will effect renewal of a contract - a new visa is not involved. When one renews a contract with the same employer, one's ARC is simply extended for another year (Immigration puts the new expiry date on the back). |

Yes you can. I did it last Friday (ARC expires 28th Feb, but I got a 12 month extension, valid until 30th Nov). I met a brick wall at immi, but they phoned my uni and after some to-ing and fro-ing they extended my visa. I have been worried about the new regulations, and went to immigration with a colleague on the off-chance. It worked for us, but this was Daejeon. It might be different in other regional offices, or on another day in Daejeon. Just try it.
PS We both power dressed with business suits, polished shoes and ties; we also made sure we each took our applications to a different officer, just in case one or another of them was in a bad/good mood. |
