heading to Laos for christmas, does anyone now of any good guesthouses/hotels that they would recommend? Prefleby something that has an email address so I could make some reservations?
If I dont get a reservation what are the chances of finding a place that will take a couple of people off the street?

Don't book!! There are lots of guesthouses in Luangprabang. Arrive, and check out what's on offer. You will find a good deal for practically nothing. Enjoy your time and especially beer Lao, oh and dare I say the smoke.

Not if he plans on renewing his visa.

I quite liked Luang Prabang Bakery Guesthouse. Google it. Bit pricey, but worth every penny.

Why? It's out of your system in 6 weeks. If I want to go on vacation and smoke I will. In fact I recently did. Get over it and leave my civil liberties alone.

Cold River Guest House,

Just ask around and find it when you get there. Cold river is a great family owned place, I spent three weeks there. It's very popular with young japanese travelers but that can be nice.

just turn up u'll have no problem, just look around each place choose the best one shud be able to get a nice place for $5 a night but there are cheaper options too. Good luck on finding decent smoke in Lao, then only time i did was in Vientiene (a horrible place) smoke with some french guy who had been living there for 5 years, god knows why. on the flip side u can buy an ounce of weed for $2, but u will have to smoke alot to have any effect.
