I'm looking at ESL in Korea after my graduation, but since I'm finishing my degree in Latin and Ancient Greek, I was curious if anyone had come across any teaching positions for those fields.

It seems a bit absurd that there would be, especially considering that there are a dwindling number of classics positions in the US and Europe, but there are Classics professors in the Korean university system (there was recently a job posting for a PhD specialist in Greek poetry), so I assume that students must take preparatory courses somewhere. International schools? Catholic schools?

It really would be nice to do something productive with my degree. . . and especially interesting to do so in a foreign country.

i'm a classics major, too -- UVa '01. specialized in Greek. Jenny Strauss Clay taught our Homer classes. ah, to go back to uni!

i never looked into the possibility of teaching classics here. i imagine it would be difficult for the kids to translate something from latin/greek into *english*, though. maybe look for an international school or try asking at the uni you mentioned.

Seoul National University is the university with the Classics program. . .

Ah well. Thought I'd give it a shot.

Ask the son of the founder of Kang's International School Fame. He received a B.A. in Classics from John Hopkins. He also lived in Indiana.

By the way, are you a Korean ethnic?

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip - do you happen to know this fellow's name, or how to contact him?

And no, I'm not a Korean ethnic.
