I don't know anything about Asan, but it depends on what you are looking for and what your lifestyle is like. I find Seoul is too crowed and prefer a smaller, big city--if that makes sense. I am in Wonju now, which is a very small town of about 300,000 people, but I am moving back to Daejeon in March. Daejeon is a big city with almost 2.4 million by last count, but has a small town atmosphere.

If you like big cities then Seoul is the place to be. But be warned-- the subway, while efficient, is crowed sometimes to the point that one can hardly move to get out once you arrive at your destination. Of course that is not true of all the lines, but it is true of many, especially during rush hours. But if you live close to your job, then that should not be a big deal. Also, Seoul is BIG i.e. covers a large area of land mass. If you live far from the "hot spots" and get caught out after the subway shuts down, it can be costly to get a cab home.

I like to visit Seoul, and have many friends there. But I just prefer being in a mid size city like Daejeon.

That's my two cents.

It really doesn't. I was surprised to find out that my own hometown, Edmonton (population under a million) covers a larger surface area than Seoul.

Maybe you're right, but when I lived in Hwogok, it took me almost 1 and a half hours by subway to get to gangnam. It doesn't take that long to get from Wonju to Seoul by bus.
