Good article; reasonably balanced.
On my world cup blog last year, I stated many of these things, particularly the subject of how players on a successful national team stint often can't replicate their performances on a professional level because the system isn't geared to them.
Some have said that the Korean players just aren't that good, and I agree. Lee Chun-Soo in particular had a reputation for being a big mouth, but we can see where it's gotten him. |

News of Kim's move came almost exactly a month after Lee Woon-jae, the South Korea captain, and three team-mates including the Middlesbrough striker Lee Dong-gook were disciplined for going on late-night drinking sessions during the Asian Cup. The players were banned from international matches for a year and sentenced to community service after twice being rumbled in a Jakarta brothel. "Players who broke away from a hotel and boozed during an important competition must be punished," KFA vice president Lee Kap-jin said. "I am so sorry. We shouldn't have done it," said a tearful Lee. |
What does that mean, "rumbled?" Beat-up? Caught?
Imagine that... Koreans in a brothel!
I thought only Western foreigners did these kinds of things?? |

couple of good articles. The problem isn't that they didn't declined in the last few years they were actually never really that great. 2002 was a fluke, with dodgy referees in their own backyard. Take that 4 weeks out of the last 10 years then they haven't done anything since.
Park JiSung is a good player, maybe not man utd quality but certainly top half of the prem quality.
Lee Young Pyo is past it, it happens.
Seol KiHyeon, he had a good few games last year but a player who constantly gets criticised by managers (Coppell and Sanchez) that he hasn't got enough stamina for 90min can't be considered very good.
Out of the rest they are not awful but nothing more than average.
This is not a football country, the k-league needs to carry on developing. (personally i think a far east super league should be considered. take 4 teams from korea, japan and china. I support leeds though so what do i know)
Houllier would be stupid to take this job, Mccarthy and korea probably deserve each other.
If all else fails i'd apply for it. I wonder what visa i'll need, |

Prior to WC 2002, they had all the time in the world to train, and didn't have to worry about qualifying. In all honesty, it was their speed, their home-field advantage (no worries about partisan crowds), and their stamina, which only lasted so long. They did rip Poland a new @sshole, but given that Polish side, not that surprising.
And the dodgy calls against Spain--the fix was definitely in.
The game against Korea and Italy was a good barometer of how talented they actually were--but the team's changed considerably since then both in roster and management, so it's unfair to expect the same results. France bowed out in the first round that year, then made it to the finals four years later, go figure! |

Houllier will never take the job. The Korean sports publication had pictures of Mourinho, Capello, Klinsmann and even Lippi. Ridiculous to think that the crem de la crem would even think about taking such a position. |

Even I'd be worried about taking the job as Korean national manager. Too many issues in that team and not enough talent. |
