Just to let you know that the Korean government doesn't just have it out for us foreign folk, or is just incompetent to us:
My wife got a notice from the National healthcare company (gov't run), saying they would be dropping her coverage because they didn't have a paper saying she quit her previous place of employment. Keep in mind she has been covered for how long, and just NOW they are saying they don't have this paper?
They gave her ONE week to find it and submit it (again!)to them before they dropped her. So she called them and had a good ol' yelling fest with the people in the company. She was able to get them to admit that they lost it, and then asked if they actually keep anything on computer files. They hemmed and hawed. She then said "So I have to go get this paper for YOU, because of YOUR incompetence??" The excuses came flying, until finally the manager said, "Yes, sorry."
Thankfully my wife had backups, but it was a real hassle over THEIR mistake. She complained to her family about it, and they just said "Oh, that is the way the government works, don't worry about it."
So it happens to EVERYONE in this country. The government is beyond incompetent -- it is frighteningly so. |

These days, in the USA, people have had DVD-Roms or Laptops stolen that were filled with lots of personal information for thousands (and in some cases, millions) of people. Such thefts have become huge news, because of the problems with Identity Theft.
I imagine something similar happened here, only they try to save face over it and hide what really happened. The answer: Thousands of you must submit your documents immediately, or you will be dropped. |

Identity theft is a huge problem in this country. Every Korean has at least a couple stories about their identity being stolen, thanks to all those crazy websites that force you to submit all your personal details just to leave a comment.
Last year my wife was contacted by the police because someone used her ID number to sell items on an online game and then disappeared with the money. Luckily she wasn't held responsible. |
