Let's be honest, while Dave's has a long list of veteran posters, the board will always be filled with scores of newbies asking the same questions and making the same observations ad infinitum. This is by no means a bad thing, and is in fact the purpose of this message board.

However, it wears on the old hands. Said old hands alternatively become grumpy old men -- or women -- incessantly vociferating their displeasure with the board's decline, cease posting regulary, join lower-quality expat message boards, or keep on keeping on. (That last a rare breed, aye.)

Honestly, I've been on Dave's since early 2003, and while I've had my fair share of disputes with other posters, I respect every Dave's member who has faithfully remained a member -- or assumed a new handle after getting banned -- for so many years. (Even Karma Police; God bless you, you lovable firebrand).

For one it demonstrates loyalty. And, shucks, that's a value I respect highly. Most importantly, however (because I'm going to overlook sociopathy for the moment), anyone who has lived in Korea for longer than 3 years possesses -- or at least they should, unless they're a slow mutant -- a very special attribute, namely perspective.

Perspective. Wisdom, even.

Picture it, brothers and sisters (and slow mutants): seperate forums wherein the new wayward ruling class and incumbents can roam freely, comfortably, neither parties having to traipse among redundant posts such as "Where is the Red Door in Itaewon" or "Do Asian Women Really Have Horizontal Vaginas?" and, conversely...well, I really can't imagine an informative post from a vet that wouldn't benefit newcomers, but you know how kids these days act. You can't tell them nothing.

Again, that's not a bad thing. Quite the opposite, as a matter of fact. Let the nestlings learn to fly on their own. It's better that way.

But for us old boys (I'm 23, by the way; I moved to Korea after running away from home at 16), an Old Folks' Forum would be greatly appreciated.

Can I get a soul clap?

I haven't been a poster on the board for too long (and even now, very occasionally do I bother) - but I've been here in Korea for about 6 years now.

I, for one, like your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

What's the worst that could happen? If it sucks, they could always erase it.

yep, been using dave's for about a decade. back in 2003 he reset membership. everybody has a senority number.

as a member of the ten year club and a single digit senority number it is hoped that mr. sperling plow back some capital from those beautiful $75 ads into the forums by having paid moderators for the korean forum. he could cherry pick 5 -10 long termers and give them a stipend for keeping things cool around here. having the same approx. moderators for virtually all orums is just so twentieth century-ish.

government of the posters, for the posters by the posters- while we all support the site by keeeping his hit numbers super high and prety much a monoply on korean jobs offered.

dave, thanks for all you do. you know where to find me.

i was a frequent poster back in 2000/2001 when i first arrived and was amazed by ddong shims, bum touching ajummas and discussions about kimchee. a year later i thought i was an expert. a year after that i realized no one ever is. a year after that i only came here once in a while to scoff at people - newbies and oldies alike. because when you get right down to it, who really wants to wear a badge that says "i've been in korea way too long!" it's not something to brag about. sometimes its embarrassing. especially if you have nothing to show for - i.e. still working in a hakwon, not speaking the language, and not married to a hotty after 5+ years. add to these things "still posting on Dave's everyday to diss kimchee and talk about people staring at me on the subway" and you got yourself a winner who probably hangs out at phillies every weekend and has lived in every other hovel in HBC. in many ways it was almost me i hate to say! so i bailed and promised myself to limit my visits to dave's as a monthly event.

true goldmembers hang out at the marmot's hole.

The purpose of this board is to increase the hit count of eslcafe.com and create revenue for the Dave's job board.

No now more of your petty complaints. This thread will be locked and deleted.
