Anyone have any recent experiences with the EWAS franchise. There are a few reviews on this site that are at least 3 years old; any feedback is appreciative. Thanks. |

I spent a year with the EWAS Songpa school... March 06 - March 07
Boy, did we have our issues, lol... but I must say that besides trying to get out of paying pension and expecting the world at times as hagwons seem to have a penchant for doing, they were respectable giving well-maintained housing a 5 minute walk from school, paying on-time, going for paid meals quite regularly, setting you up with contract cell phone, bank account and giving back all the monies in relation to housing deposit, severance etc... you will be expected to work rather lengthy days from 9 6.05 and your lunch break will be spent eating with your homeroom class which can take the whole period if you get a young class or a slow eater... I worked what equated to 2 Saturdays in the year: 1 Christmas Pageant, then a morning to sell the school for next years potential students and another half day at the EWAS-wide graduation over in Co-Ex...
There is a slight variation between each school and I didnt know anyone at the Daechi school... apparently the Jamsil EWAS are the biggest slave drivers of the franchise and even make you ride the EWAS bus in the morning as they collect the kids for kindergarten, so I wouldnt quite recommend over there... the Seocho branch actually had teachers stay on there for 2 or 3 years which is quite remarkable for a hagwon so I get the impression they were doing something right... generally at the Songpa branch nobody stayed for more than 12 months and 2 left after 3 months... there was however one dude who came back for a 6-month stint after an original 12-month contract but no-one else...
Apparently the best school in the EWAS franchise is Seocho... at least, I think its Seocho... its basically the head of the franchise... as a whole curriculum is so-so, some good songs and stories for certain levels although they need to get better proof readers for their books... if I was you, Id enquire whether youll be doing some of the things that they had us doing above which dont sound too attractive and most of all make sure that they dont have you riding the bus to school in the morning.... I did ride past the Daechi school once or twice and I did quite like the look of th location... I would've preferred being in Daechi as opposed to Songpa although I was pleased with the amenities I had close by in Songpa |

My first job was there.
They threw me into the classroom on my first day of arriving and failed to tell me about all of the paperwork I had to do until a month had passed. My coworkers were utterly unhelpful.
In all of my time here, I've yet to come across kids as spoiled rotten as the ones there. And I've yet to come across a boss as afraid to discipline them as I did there.
The housing was a dump. You'd think that for such an expensive neighborhood it'd be better, but oh well.
I was working 9 - 1 with Kindy, and 3 - 7 / 9. But hey, you were only doing kindy every two days.
After I left three months in, two of the coworkers did a midnight run, and half of the management quit. There were two professional teachers when I arrived there, they had been teaching in America for about twenty years each, who flat out told me the job was shit.
But, that was back in 2002. The management and staff have probably changed since then and may it's become a good place to work for.
I'm doubtful. |
