Jade, a seven-year-old of South Korean origin, is the focus of an escalating dispute across two continents. At the age of four months she was adopted by a Dutch consular officer based in Hong Kong, Raymond Poeteray, and his wife Meta. But the couple have now surrendered Jade to the Hong Kong social welfare department for readoption, reportedly because the child could not adapt to Dutch culture. |
The child was adopted at four months but couldn't fit into Dutch culture?

I find it hard to believe that you can't get an adopted infant to "fit in" to the adoptive culture unless you're completely useless as a parent.
Also, according to the article, who the hell forgets to register their internationally adopted child as a citizen of the parents' countries? I mean these were diplomats for cripes' sake! What a bunch of numbnuts. |

From what's presented in public so far, they don't seem to be the sharpest tacks on the board; however, each country has its own citizenship laws. Not everyone in the Foreign Service/Diplomatic Service is conversant with such laws. And a lot of people just happily go along believing a lot of myths such as "If you marry an American, you automatically get American citizenship."
The case at hand, though, is most likely more complicated than what the news media are reporting so far. |

Seems obvious to me, that these "parents" were looking for a surrogate child, until one of their own came along. They treated this kid like a pound puppy, and gave her away when it wasn't convenient.
I remember hearing stories about doctors in the 60s, 70s telling infertile couples to adopt so they could "feel" like parents and be more likely to have their own. |

I wonder how Korean society can raise such a fuss about this case when almost zero people in S. Korea would even dream of adopting a child, let alone a girl. |

I wonder where in the article does it say anything about Korean society rasising such a fuss? |

A diplomat accused of dumping his adopted daughter flew home yesterday after triggering a row about the ethics of Europeans adopting Asian children. |

Being "sure" is not absolute proof. The only place Koreans were mentioned in the article was where a South Korean embassy in Hong Kong explained why they were giving up the child.
And "some Koreans" does not equate "Korean society" regardless. |
