My girlfriend and I are planning to move to Korea in late January/early February to teach English for the first time. We definately want to fly over together and live together, but are not so sure it would be best to also work at the same office. As we would like to meet some other foreigners, we're not interested in going the public route, and I'd rather stay home than teach kindergarten classes.

We've been looking for about a month, and have yet to find something that would work for both of us. We'd prefer to live in a nicer suburb of Seoul like Bundang or Ilsan, or in a quieter area of Seoul like Mokdong. Does anyone have any advice on what we may be able to do to make this work? Do any big chains offer couple housing but allow the two to teach at different nearby offices?

Thanks for anyone who can help!

I think that you should both work and get your own jobs, which are relatively close enough to each other, so that getting together is not a hassle. Ilsan is a popular teacher's destination at the end of one of Seoul's subway lines. Mokdong is more central than Ilsan. Bundang is a rich area, which is popular with foreign English teachers who are here for the money. Basically, since you are not married, no Korean employer will respect your bond as boyfriend-girlfriend unless they have two job openings at the same place and want to hire the two of you. Since this will be your first time in Korea, just do your best and live and learn.
