Just wondering of anyone on here has ever taken diet pills in Korea? Do they have them at the drug store? I don't mean crap herbal ones...but actual pharmaceuticals.
Just curious. Wink

I know you're going to hear it from all sides, so I thought I'd just come out with it and say it nicely-- please reconsider. Being in Korea can put a lot of pressure on you weight-wise, as Koreans can be painfully frank and the girls here take dieting VERY seriously.

However, there are safer and smarter ways to lose weight. Most contain an appetite suppressor and a stimulant of some kind, which can be very hard on your heart. You can also get some very nasty side effects and horrible overdosing consequences.

If you decide to go through with this, please read up on the specific drug you're taking so you can take the necessary precautions.

Take care!

Maybe you wanna try acupuncture. I hear it works - haven't tried it yet but might. My friend tried it but ate KFC and drank beer every night so of course she didn't lose weight. Then she tried the South Beach Diet and cried and yelled constantly. Jeez.

Acupuncture seems good. You can eat, you don't have to take any pills. It's probably not too expensive either.

I must admit taking pills was a thought I had. But I have heard far more horror stories than good.
Besides, I just need to exercise more. I think it may be the sedentary lifestyle that is contributing to the lower self-esteem. Thankfully, nobody has called me fat or even commented on my body.
I shouldn't care anyway...but it is hard not to in a country with pretty little dolls everywhere. Rolling Eyes

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

And acupressure would be an interesting experiment. Along with some yoga and the gym!

if you find anything with pseudophedrine (sp?) in it, let me know. That's a great appetite suppresant.

But, it is rough on the ticker, etc......

Yea, that sudaphed is pleasant to take during sinus colds and Korea dishes it up in strong doses, but only in 3 day prescriptions.

As a cold medicine, many formulations of Haben have it:

A simple appetite suppressant is chromium picolinate, or vanadium. Diabetics take this to suppress glucose levels, but a side effect is that is suppresses appetite. It is also an ingredient in almost every diet pill.

However, it's difficult to find in Korea. you can buy Brewer's Yeast at a GNC in Korea, which has about 70 mcg in each pill, but it doesn't work as well as the pure chromium picolinate bottles you can find any vitamin store in America or Singapore. Also, you'll pay about 35,000Won in Korea for the Brewer's Yeast, whereas in the US it's about $6.

Just take 200 mcg whenever you want your appetite suppressed.

Actually, you need to take Ephedra with Caffeine and Aspirin to work as a fat burner. It is not really an appetite suppressant. and taken alone, it doesn't do anything for your "diet".

The strongest and most effective fat burners had about

25 mg ephedra (as Ma huang or ephinephrine HCL)
200 mg caffeine (as Gaurana)
?? mg of Aspirin, forgot this dosage (as White Willow)

in one pill.

Then ephedra was banned in the US and all the pills replaced it with synephrine, sort of a weaker form of ephedra, as well as less dosage.

Over-eating isn't about simple appetite. If you're hungry, drink a bunch of water and you'll feel fine.

Over-eating is more likely to be about self-medicating (I tend to use sugar to manage my mood/energy levels), eating for the sake of boredom, eating while zoned-out in front of the TV, eating out of habit rather than hunger, etc. etc.

Then there's your choice of foods, which can obviously make a huge difference too, and is again pretty much psychological.

Speaking as a "western male," I tend to prefer women who aren't rail-thin! Let's be honest, many of us guys are getting older (30s) and our hard bodies have for the most part gone soft--so when I hear western guys talk about the beauty of Korean women, I have to wonder if their mothers fed them enough as children!

Bottom line, thatwhitegirl: You are beautiful just the way you are!

I did take diet pills for awhile in Korea and they were by prescrpition. You'll have a difficult time getting anything over the counter like in western countries. I don't remember the name of them, but they weren't too bad and had only mild sideeffects. I don't know if it'd do that again though.
