I'd say prices in Thailand have jumped drastically over the past five years, as the influx of foreigners has raised prices.

Perhaps Cambodia and Laos are the better alternatives, though Bali is also still quite cheap.

I wouldn't say Thailand is "very cheap". It's cheaper than Korea, but not "very cheap" like it once was.

screw thailand.... their smiles are gone and the people there have started to think that they are entilted to tourists paying inflated prices for their huts and food.... I'd rather go to Malaysia anyday.

i'm amazed they've had prices as low as they have for so long.

The bang for the buck is really high, PLUS its international worldclass much more than say Seoul, etc.

yeah, last time I went to Thailand, the Thai people were incredibly rude.

I guess they don't appreciate my hard earned tourist dollars. I haven't been back since.

Way better western style foods than Seoul. Day tours are way better organised much less of the whole hurry up and wait syndrome.

air con guesthouse: 400 baht per night
eat only thai food (and who'd complain about that?): 150 baht will buy you three meals per day
large bottle of Chang: 40 baht (suppose you drink 4 in an evening) 160 baht. after four large Changs you'll be buzzin' louder than any bee in the hive.
pack of smokes: 45 baht
condoms (pack of three 40 baht)
one short time daily: 500 baht

add it all up: approx. 1300 baht ($40.00 USD) per day

if i spend a month in thailand at this daily rate i will have spent $1200.00

so let me get this straight. all i have to do is save a mere $100.00 per month for one year and i can take a vacation where i will eat well, sleep well, get loaded and laid everyday? NO BRAINER! LIKE I SAID......

THAILAND IS STILL VERY CHEAP.

Where is that? There's no way you can get those kind of deals in Pattaya or Phuket. Particularly the short time. You must really go to the sticks somewhere up north.

500b shortime is the normal rate in Pattaya, three holers as well (so I was told) unless you are a numpty who doesn't know the rates.

400B for a guesthouse - still there. not the nicest places to stay and I personally wouldn't stay in one but they are still there.
