Does anyone know if you have to go to Japan to get an E7 visa or can it be done in Korea?
Also i'm quitting my job over Christmas so when i come back into Korea my E2 visa will have been cancelled. I may not have the E7 by then. Can i come in on a tourist visa until i get the E7 sorted? How easy is a tourist visa?

Where are you from?

As a tourist, you just arrive and get a stamp in your passport that says "leave by XXXX". That is your tourist visa. Boom. Done.

If you are from Canada, you get an automatic 6 months just for stepping off of the plane. No health check. No drug check. No visa hassles. Just leave by the date they stamp in your passport. You can come back on another plane that same day, and get another 6 months. Boom.

USA citizens get 1 month, renewable up to 3 at immigration if they fill out paperwork and give them reason why they are staying.

It's illegal to work at all on a tourist visa.

Under the old regulations you still have to do the visa run to Japan or wherever to get the actual visa. The other prep can be done in Korea.

You can come back on a tourist visa while you prepare everything you need for the visa, but you will have to go on a visa run, which means two trips. No real way around it.

Morton, congratulations on your job. It appears something came through for you. What type of work is it?

Hi Tukkong,

I got a job in marketing. The visa situation is a problem though. It seems nobody knows what's going on. The company i am supposed to be working for have not filled me with confidence that they know what they're doing.

Typical Korea.

My advice is to prepare all the documents yourself. Obviously, the company will have to get the letter from the relevant ministry - if required.

It might be worth visiting Immigration and checking with them.

I have an E-7 for international marketing work. This is one area where visas can be difficult to get. Apparently, the Government doesn't like to let foreigners do this work. However, it depends upon the situation.
