Howdy -
Just got a job offer in Saha-Gu. Looking at the map, it doesn't seem like the best location - any advice? How long from there to Seomyeon? Their contract says 5% income tax - it should be 3%, correct?
Thanks |

Income tax should be less than 3% unless your making 10,000,000 won a month.
Don't take the job. |

2,000,000 Korean Won x 5% = 100,000 Korean Won
2,100,000 Korean Won x 5% = 105,000 Korean Won
2,200,000 Korean Won x 5% = 110,000 Korean Won
2,000,000 Korean Won x 3% = 60,000 Korean Won
2,100,000 Korean Won x 3% = 63,000 Korean Won
2,200,000 Korean Won x 3% = 66,000 Korean Won
National Tax Service Website:
1. http://nts.go.kr/
2. click on English
3. click on Check Your Monthly Withholding Tax
4. Monthly Wage & Salary Income> (in thousands)
2,000,000 Korean Won = 31,740 Korean Won
2,100,000 Korean Won = 36.090 Korean Won
2,200,000 Korean Won = 45,140 Korean Won |

Your employer will "pocket money" at your expense. The money your employer pockets may be used for your severance pay or plane ticket. In addition, your employer could also use that money for his pension and medical contributions. You can calculate your taxes on the National Tax Service Website below.
National Tax Service Website:
1. http://nts.go.kr/
2. click on English
3. click on Check Your Monthly Withholding Tax
4. Monthly Wage & Salary Income> (in thousands)
Lets assume your monthly salary is 2,200,000 Korean Won
-The contract states 5%
-2,200,000 Korean Won x 5% = 110,000 Korean Won
-If you use the tax calculation on the NTS website, your employer should deduct 45,140 Korean Won per month.
-Your employer is pocketing approximately 64,860 Korean Won per month.
-Over the course of a year, your employer would pocket 778,320 Korean Won. That doesn't include the income tax your employer would deduct from your severance pay. |

Gary - thank you for the math lesson, and obviously if the money isn't going to me it's going into their pockets - I need info about Saha-Gu!
P.S. like the recruiters that write me back asking for the info I just sent them, you might try reading the question before responding - seems to be an issue with a number of your posts |

unlike the recruiters who are drinking as they reply to your mail and forget if they replied or not, no one here is making bank by responding to you.
But I'll tell you like it is: Saha-Gu is crap. I've been here for 10 months, three weeks, two days, and seven hours. The air is brown for god's sake! The people spit on you cause you are white. There are no toilets- only a communal dung pit.
It's the most horrific place on the penninsula. Food costs more than in Seoul, if you are white. Run away. |

Saha is the worst neighborhood in pusan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a scummy industrial wasteland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Teach near the beach. Better air, cleaner streets, better restaurants, basicly everything is nicer.
Good luck. |

Saha gu is a bit far out. Personally, I wouldn't live there, but if it's a great job then that makes up for a bad place. However, since they are trying to cheat you on tax, it doesn't sound like they are too great.....

saha gu is way out there in the sticks, on the border of busan city area and gimhae. there is a university there (dong-a) but for the most part it is an industrial park and not a particularly nice place to live. its right on the end of the subway, line 1. take a look at the busan city map for more info. i wouldnt live there (been in busan 4 years) |
