|
|
Hello there,
I have been asked to give a 50 minute lecture to university students about business English next Friday. This is the first time I have had to do such a lecture. I am a business major, but I think lecturing for a one off lesson on business English is a little bit more difficult.
Any ideas/plans that could help me out from this situation?
Much appreciated. |

do a brief outline of topics to cover and then plan on a simple introduction to your students about what exactly business english is.
if you have access to pp and monitor you can do it as a presentation, is always better of course
suggestions:
interoffice memorandums
business letters - tons of these on the internet, pull a couple off for examples, i.e., sales pitches, consumer complaints, overbilling
resume discussions are always popular - but know what you are talking about, again, if you don't look on the internet for some examples
unless you are familiar with complex reporting i'd leave it out
you might throw in a couple of finance websites for fun, you know, some investment sites or something - check out yahoo finance they have tons
good luck, and really don't sweat it - chances are they won't undersand much anyway!! |

Compare a business email to a personal email.
Do it on the LCD/OHP |

There are three simple rules to follow when giving a speech on short notice on a subject that you know nothing about:
1) Plagiarize
2) Plagiarize
3) Plagiarize
Get thee to a search engine and type in the search term "Business english lecture."
Remember to pepper it with a couple of personal anecdotes to make it seem authentic. Speak clearly and use a lot of words they don't know.
You're welcome |
