Is there anything that I should make sure to not miss?
I won't be spending all the time in Delhi.. I'm thinking of going to Agra and Jaipur too, but I'd love suggestions. I'd like to go to Pune to see my family, but I don't think I have enough time. Pune is closer to Mumbai, I'd have to take a domestic flight, and I think that maybe there's just not enough time.
I'll be going end of Dec/beg of Jan.
It'll be my first time to both Thailand and India, so suggestions are welcome. |

In Bangkok you may have the time to get the train up to Lopburi (monkey infested temples and city) or Ayutthaya (more temples).
If your just staying in Bangkok itself and you're there at the weekend, check out chatuchak weekend market.
Catch some river ferries back and forth to various places, its nice to see the city from the water instead of stuck in traffic. There is also the Golden Palace and Wat Pho, which are the top 2 places in the link below.

Thai boxing at Lumpini Stadium in Bangkok is a must-see. I think they only host events 2 or 3 times a week though, but check it out if you can. |

Take a stroll through Chinatown at about 7:00 pm, sample some of the great street food and then taxi back to Khao San Road for a few cold Changs and people watching. |

In Bangkok--Be sure to see the Grand Palace and the reclining Buddha at the temple just south of the Grand Palace complex. Both are totally amazing. Also take the river boat (it's like a bus but on the river) up and down just to get a nice idea of hte city. Just don't take it at rush hour as it's really crowded. |

Delhi is not all that bad. India is rough but fascinating. I lived north of Delhi for a year. Just spend a couple days in Delhi--see the Red Fort and the Taj Mahal. Oh, also the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid or the Jama Masjid are worth it. Go shopping in a couple of the main markets. Then, take a train or bus north to Dharamsala. Even a taxi there is not all that bad, and it's safer than a bus. It's like getting to go to Tibet without leaving India. Great weather, good treks up into the hills, etc. Cold this time if year, but the cultural aspect and seeing the Himalayas make the 10 hr journey very much worth it. Great shopping for Tibetan stuff and you may even get to see the Dalai Lama.
Another worthy side trip is to go to Jaipur in Rajasthan. Well worth it.
Have fun! And be careful with your pack/bag/purse, etc.--actually be ultra cautious. Unfortunately, some of the little kids there are excellent thieves working for big bosses. You'll never know what hit you. |

Yeah, I think 2-3 days in Delhi is sufficient. Spending a day and night (as opposed to a day-trip) in Agra is good too.
That time of year, I'd try to make a quick trip to Rajasthan for a couple days instead of the himalayas. Less of a hassle to get to as well, don't have curvy roads to deal with.
BTW, there is a lot of competition in the domestic flight market, so you might be able to get a rather cheap ticket to Pune if you really want to go. |
