First of all, it's for a public school job, so I do think I'll be refunded as the contract states: : )

How much should I spend on the ticket? Very preliminarily (I'm on dial-up) r it's about $950 for a leaving @ 6:00am flight (fun for whoever drives me to the airport).

I can do different times/routes for a higher price, what's the norm here? Take the cheapest available, or stay under $1400, or....?

And of course this is all for coach.

This would be a question for your supervisors.

Or, tell us who you are with. EPIK? SMOE? etc.?

SMOE allows you to reserve with Korean Air and they pay for it.

Or you can reserve and pay yourself with another company. The amount isn't stipulated as long as you are flying to your home country.

Beware of SMOE's promises to pay you back by a certain date. Last August, they screwed a lot of returning teachers by not giving them money on time. And I don't mean a week or so late, I mean weeks.

First, I should clarify, this is a ticket to get me from the US, to Korea.

The job is a public high school in Bundang, all my paperwork has been sent to "Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education" (GPOE). I think initially I got this through a recruiting firm called CGE, but I'm not sure, as all contact for a long time has been straight through GPOE.

The contract states that I pay airfare there & then get reimbursed. They've given me no instructions other than to book the flight based on a date/time worked out with my future co-teacher.

Book the most convenient, direct, economy flight(s) over. There should be no problems with reimbursement.
