...wanting to know how to download movies!
I'm fairly new to Macs and am looking for some direction/advice. I want to be able to download movies but do not quite know the process (what tools I need). Do I download a torrent application? What's a good tool to download on the internet in order to be able to download movies? Cheers for the advice! |

Download a torrent client like "utorrent" from download.com. Anyhow, Mac works just like windows just w/ added prestige... |

| i personally like Azureus with all that VUZE crap turned off. The reason is because so far its the only client i know of for the mac that allows me to select files from a torrent, and choose which pieces i want to download and which ones not to download. For example, when I'm downloading Nintendo DS roms there are some games that I don't want to waste time downloading, and I can increase the priorities of the files I want. Other than Azureus the best native mac bitorrent client I tried so far was BitRocket. I heard Transmission is banned on Demenoid for not following standards. |

Transmission and Xtorrent which i think is made by the Transmission people are both banned. I would go with Azureus. I am a long time mac user and i have tried many different bit torrent clients and i think Azureus is the best for all the reasons that was stated in the previous post.

Who bans Transmission these days? It WAS a problem, but I haven't run into it for a good 6 months now, and I use it constantly. Azureus is a resource hog, and bloated beyond belief. Granted, it works well enough most of the time.
I use Transmission because I find it to be less greedy, cleaner (aesthetics, and all), and bloody fast.
Try them both, and see how you go.  |

I had HUGE Problems with Transmission. It was falsely reporting data, and hash checks. There are many threads about this problem on their foriums.
Too bad, beccause it had a great interface.
Now I use Tomato. It's ultra simplistic, but it's lean and mean. Very fast downloads with thtis.
Anyway, heres what you do...
Go to a site like "Version Tracker", to download the Tomato client. It and the original Bit Torrent client are very similar, and are set up the same.
Or you can go directly to the Tomato website to download it.

Download it, and install it. Your computer will install it in your applications folder.
After it is installed, you need to open certain ports in your firewall which will allow data to pass through.. I believe the download has a help file on this. If not, open your 'Preferences' file, and select 'Network', then 'Security'.
The port numbers for Tomato are 6881-6889.
Or you can just type 'Firewall' in the Spotlight at the top right of your screen.
Once the port is open, you are set.
Go to a torrent site and search for the movie you want.
Some good torrent search sites are...
mininova.org
torrentspy.org
piratebay.org
Choose and click on a movie to download,
Open your Tomato application. Drag and drop the torrent icon onto the Tomato Icon. Don't forget to click the little triangle that says 'advanced' and then 'check hashes'.
