| I'm going to get my hands on a 8800GTS 320mb card, and I want to take advantage of it's DX10 capabilities. For this I'll need Vista, but I'm not willing to completely let go of XP just yet. Is it possible to have both OS on the same machine? |

| I'm not sure if this is the only way, but one way to have both OS's on your system is to partition your hard drive. Then install each OS on it's seperate partition. You'll still be able to access both partitions from each OS, they'll just appear as different drive letters, so it'll look like you have two hard drives. |

if you have enough hard drive space (or multiple hard drives), why not also install linux?
so you set up a number of partitions:
c: xp
d: vista
e: linux
f: personal files
put all your stuff on f drive, so that it's accessible by all three operating systems ... just a warning though, linux doesn't play well with ntfs, so making f drive fat32 would reduce the headaches.
if you do all this, when you boot your computer you will get a screen asking you to choose an OS every time you restart.
it's a good idea to keep xp ... vista=lemon ... but vista does have some good features.
however, don't write off linux ... ubuntu is very easy to use and install and it's very light and fast if you're just surfing the net. |

I'm only really interested in Vista for gaming. I'll be getting a new card tomorrow and I want to test how good it is using dx10. If DX10 was available on XP, I wouldn't even bother.
P.S. Haven't decided on which card - 8800gts 320mb or radeon HD3870. Any tips? |
