My cable company, T-Broad, won't let me get cable unless I pay for a year, but I signed a 6-month contract, so in effect, I would have to pay double, as the supposed minimum contract is for a year. WTF?

My-coteacher said it's because foreigners skip out on their bills. I said I'd be glad to pay it all in advance for the 6 months I'd be here, but if I pay in advance, what's with the year-long cable contract? they are just trying to rip me/any foreigner off, right?

Are there other cable companies, or is there typically only one in each neighborhood?

My cable company put the account in the schools name.

I pay the bill.
