Bjork, one of the most compelling, intelligent and unique pop singers today, will give her first Seoul concert in February of next year.
According to the local concert provider, Yellow Entertainment, the Icelander, who has sold more than 20 million units of her albums since her debut in 1977, will perform at the Olympic Hall in Seoul Olympic Park on Feb. 26. This is part of her "Volta Tour."
Best known here for her role as a blind factory worker in the film "Dancer in the Dark" (2000), which won her a Best Actress Award at Cannes, Bjork has been a cult icon on the music scene since the late '80s. She is famous not only for her creativity as musician but for the highly unusual outfits and hairdos that she sports during public appearances.
The former member of the disbanded punk band, the Sugarcubes, which put her native Iceland on pop music map, she made her solo debut with the album, "Debut," a mix of songs she had been writing since she was a teenager. It was named album of the year by NME.com, a U.S.-based online pop music portal, and eventually went platinum in the United States.
Earlier this year, she released her sixth studio album, "Volta," which features 10 new tracks. The first single from the album, "Earth Intruders," became her second Billboard Hot 100 entry in the United States.
The album debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming her first top 10 album in the United States. It also reached No. 7 on the U.K. Albums Chart, with 20,456 units sold during the first week.
Bjork became even more famous (or notorious) because of two incidents in 1996. In Bangkok, she landed several blows on a reporter who approached her 10-year-old son, Sindri. She later explained that the reporter had been pestering her for four days. Later that year, one of her fans mailed an acid bomb to her London home, and then killed himself; the package was intercepted by the London police.
Ticket for the concert will go on sale on Nov. 28. Prices are 67,000 won and 89,000 won. For more information, call (02) 3444-9969. |

Bjork is one great artist...
loved "Debut" with some funky tracks and "Post" had some good songs as well but since then it seems she just tries too hard to be different...would still be a great show though. |

That is damn lame! Tuesdays are my late night at work. Bah!
Anyone know what time the show starts? Maybe I could make it if I jetted immediately after class... |

Bad news is, I don't even live in Seoul during the week, so I'd have to make the trip up after work Tuesday afternoon and crash in Seoul for the night
Good news is, I don't have any Wednesday morning classes, so I can make it back by train the next morning with plenty of time to spare. |

Her website shows the Seoul date as being Feb 16th, not the 26th, which is a Saturday!
