hard to believe that the USD has devalued almoct 25% over the past 2 years. 12.5% yearly! if this continues i might have to find a new playground.

At the risk of hijacking the thread...
I'm going to Bangkok and Cambodia. Should I take dollars and
then exchange the dollars when I get there?
People say you should take small bills, but I doubt the Korean
bank will have them.
What about traveler's checks?

Cambodia.

Few if any ATMs in Cambodia - bring lots of small US bills. $20's are too big.

i recommend traveler's checks for the thai leg of your sojourn and small bills (USD) for the cambodian leg. small US bills can be gotten at the airport but the exchange rate is not always the most favorable at the airport. often times when using large bills in cambodia you will get shafted on the exchange rate when you receive your change. be sure to have exact change with which to pay for your visa at the border.

have a blast. you're gonna love both places.

When you're in Cambodia, walk into any gold store [you can't miss them], and ask to change your larger denominations to smaller ones. I assure you that no one will refuse unless they are torn or worn out in any way, same with the change - big thing here, don't know why.

ATM's can be found in PP and Siem Reap, no where else. Use T/C or cash.

I preferred Cambodia, but that's cause I was traveling on a tight budget.

you should get close to 33,000 baht in exchange for your grand. be sure not to exchange at a hotel or the airport. exchange booths actually have the better rates.

The rules in Thailand are that you get a better rate IN country, so wait until you land, or change about 40-50$ before you arrive, and go to any and all banks or bank exchange facilities [they are clearly marked as such].
You'll get 32k baht in Thailand, but only 30k for that same grand.

Do you need baht to pay for taxi and room when you land? If so, it might be smart to buy a small amount in Korea.

Why wouldn't you take Euros instead of dollars coming from Korea? I mean, if you're going to be changing currency twice, might as well get a stronger currency than the US dollar to exchange.

Change your money at the Thai airport after you land.

Do they have money changing service at 12 midnight of a Saturday night? You get the best rate at BKK airport on purchasing baht?

I am due to arrive at midnight on a Saturday night. I asked to leave in the morning, but it is the only flight from PUS to BKK on Thai for January 5th.

I'm buying 100,000 won worth of baht at KEB bank next week just to be safe in order to have a way to pay for my first taxi ride and room.

I'll probably buy about 3 million won worth of dollars next week and then exchange that at the airport in Bangers. They don't want Korean won; the exchange rate is awful.

Never thought about doing Euros instead of dollars.....anyone doing this?
