I'm not 100% sure it's cool to be posting this here, but it's not commercial, so hopefully no-one will be upset.
Anyway, a gang of us in Daejeon (대전) are organizing a Texas Hold-Em no-limit tournament for December 15th (short notice I know, guess I should've posted earlier).
It's a 50,000 won buy-in with re-buys. There are already about 25-30 people confirmed, so there will be a decent prize-fund.
We are planning to start around 3 or 4pm on the Saturday and go till 9 or 10, and then it will either be finished, or we can all go out and get hammered, and continue on Sunday from noon.
Obviously most of the people taking part are from Daejeon, but if anyone lives close and wants to come by, or if you live a bit further away and want to make a weekend of it, it'd be a perfect get-away.
We're 53 mins from Seoul on the KTX, 2 hours by bus or slow train. As far as nightlife goes, it's not Itaewon or Hongdae, but we have a selection of decent bars and clubs, all grouped fairly closely.
I doubt we will attract any professionals away from the 2-5 table at Walker Hill, but there are so many enthusiastic amateurs living here, it seems a shame not to do this more often.
The standard of most people here is pretty low, but we do watch Rounders around-the-clock, and expect to get better any day now.
If any poker clubs want to bring 10 or 15 people down, I guarantee that we will come up if you choose to hold a tourney at a later date.
The atmosphere will be friendly, with normal etiquette expected.
We are trying to work out something for food and drinks, waiter-service etc and expect to have something in place on the day.
I'm not 100% sure of the legalities of doing this, so no undercover police officers please
We have a venue lined up, and it will be closed to us for the day.
If you are interested and want more details, or to let me know you're coming, please PM me.
If you can't PM yet, post here, and I will email you instead.
If anyone in Daejeon is reading this and wants to join our regular weekly game (we usually play 25c-50c) then feel free to contact me about that too. We're always looking for fresh fish. |

I'm definitely interested, and there are probably a few more from Jeonju looking for some hold'em action.
What's the payout structure? Overly top-heavy payouts make long trips a bad idea.
Any "in house" rules I should know about?
(ie. the group here is pretty laid back, so string betting is ignored, and cuts are rarely offered etc.)
Lastly, is there a cut-off for buy-backs?...(games tend to drag when there isn't a cap.....although I'm guessing the buy-in will inhibit this a bit.) |

Cut-off for buy-backs: We were thinking unlimited for 2 hours, at which time everyone could reload as well.
I like to think we are laid-back, but we don't allow string betting per se; Most of us have gotten in the habit of saying "raise", and then you can take as much time as you want to lay your chips out.
We usually offer a cut, but most of our players opt not to, so if you are sitting beside one of those people, you don't have to offer.
I find, where there are large sums of money involved, people want a bit more order, than say, when we meet for our weekly game, and there might be $100 on the table.
Pay-out structure is entirely dependent on how many entrants, but I was thinking that 20% of people will get paid. Whenever we do tourneys like this (most we had before was 21 people) we came up with 3 or 4 options and had a vote before the start. |

Sounds good.
I'll pm you for more info, and give my 2 cents regarding the payout there too.
Thanks for the info. |

There has been a lot of interest in playing.
If anyone has suggestions or advice on the running of the tournament, it is also warmly received.
Cubanlord, you would be very welcome to join us. I figure anyone that confident of their ability though would find our payouts too low, when there is millions to be won at Walker Hill. |

Have you given any thought to door prizes/side cash games etc.?
By the sounds of it you'll have a solid showing of 40-50, so why not take advantage?
The more there is to do/get, the better the time for everyone.
If you're looking for ideas, let me know. |

Last minute bump.
If you want an excuse to give Koreans for why you're not heading to the west coast to clean up the oil spill, tell them you're registered for a high-stakes poker game. |
