This is really random, but I know someone who is half-Chinese, half-white who is interested in doing some simple modeling in Korea. He's extremely attractive and every Korean that meets him (whether it's his students, co-teachers, friends, or random people on the street) thinks he should start modeling here. Do any foreigners here get jobs like that, and how would they go about doing it? |

I would guess that he'd have to send headshots, etc. to various agencies, and if any are interested they would help sponsor the type of visa needed for that kind of work.
Or maybe come in on a tourist visa, go around to modeling agencies - but definitely get the right visa from immigration before actually doing any work for pay in Korea... |

If your friend was really that good looking, work would come to him. It came to me. I was offered work modeling physician lab coats. If he's good, he'll get discovered. I was. |

Yeah...THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT PICS!!!
Anyways, maybe he shouldn't get the swelled head just yet. Many Koreans will tell any foriegn man he is handosme...even the fat, bald ones. Or he will get the "Oh, you look like (insert celebrity name) thing. |

Yes, this is common but maybe he really is good looking.
One good way is to go to an acting/modeling school. A lot of the agencies will scout those places for obvious reasons. |

OMG Dennis Oh is HOT! You know I was always curious about how Koreans categorize other Asians look-wise. Blondes and other westerners seem to have to live-up to less stringent constrictions of beauty. And it goes both ways when you're in a predominantly "White" society and you're the only Asian-looking person - it's normal to be swept-up by the novelty of just being different. But an Asian-looking person in a predominately Asia society, like your friend ... I guess that means beauty is universal and Koreans don't find any offbeat quirky things (to a westerner) beautiful.
I'm probably not making much sense here but I'm curious if your friend got the same amount of attention in his home country?
Anyway, to other girls, here's a link to Dennis Oh

He can put his pic on a number of work sites for Korea - the agents will come to him.
But unless he's got an F visa, it'll be tough to work legally here. |

No, he got it everywhere at home, too. But in Korea...it's reached a creepy status. When we go shopping, girls will literally follow us around with cameras, hiding behind clothing racks and taking pictures. I can't take him anywhere without girls elbowing each other and just gaping. My co-workers continually state that we look like a celebrity couple. Most think he's half-Korean, anyway, so it's not like he has "foreigner" stamped all over his forehead. Besides, I do photography and know a thing or two about aesthetics--he's got great bone structure. |

Both of you should do a photo shoot together. Who knows you two can really get lucky. They say it's all timing and teaching will always be there for you after. I say submit your info to the prospective agencies first and deal with the Visa issue once you get some solid interest.
Let us know how it goes ^^ |

in some ways, i'd say koreans grade beauty on the same scale as westerners, but with some things, they are markedly different. every day since i've been here, i've had someone remark on my 'small face'--it's always regarded with a high amount of awe. i don't think americans notice it at ALL compared to koreans, who are just obsessed with the idea of having a small face.
but yeah, he got a lot of attention at home. at our university, he had a lot of female and male admirers--a LOT of male admirers, actually. |
