i'm going to the philippines for the first time dec 19-29. so far, i have no particular plan other than flying into manila and spending one or 2 nights there for taco bell related reasons. i definitely want to go to the beach, but palawan sounds too quiet and boracay sounds too touristy. is there anywhere on a beach with decent nightlife that isn't overly crowded with tourists? |

Boracay is always good for a few days to get your feet wet before you head farther afield.
Then for somthing a little nicer head to Alona beach / Bohol.
http://www.bohol.ph I personally like the Alona tropical resort (rooms from 25k won per night) or Bohol tropics in town
( http://www.boholtropics.com/ . There are also lots of cheaper places to stay as well.
do a search here... there is LOTS of info.
Also on the list you can add Camiguin, Siargao island (cloud 9),
Moalboal and Malapascua in Cebu province, Hadsan on Mactan is cheap and easy to get to with easy access to Cebu city and about a 10 minute drive from the airport.
I can't think of any good reason to stay in or near Manila (not even for taco bell). Grab a cheap domestic flight south and enjoy the republic.
Alternatively, you can head north and play on some of the volcanoes, or if you are into back packing you can head for eastern Leyte or Samar. Cheap, lots of nice beaches (but no night life - they roll up the streets at dusk) and great people. |

Take a bus from Manila down to the port at Batangas City. (couple hours) Then take a boat to White Beach in Puerto Galera (another hour or two at the most). Google it and you will see some good pics of the place. Also a good place to stay at for a couple days. Enjoy! |
