I had an interview with them a few years ago. I didn't take the job because my friend worked for a company that Samsung contracted out to: at the HRDC - his pay and benefits were better than what Samsung was offering me. Also I heard some horror stories about how Samsung is very authoritarian.
After each program you do, you get evaluated as well. Do bad on a few of those evaluations and you are out. |

I have worked for Samsung HRDC for awhile with virtually no complaints other than the bus ride; it is quite an enjoyable place to teach. I've taught virtually all levels in the ten years I've been in Korea and I can honestly say I enjoy this job the most. The enthusiasm of the students is great as they aren't hungover like in university, or disrespectful/messaging on their cellphone etc. as in public school.
Yes you do get evaluated, actually midway through the program and at the end too, for a 10 week program for example. You'd really have to screw up royally to get low enough marks to be let go though. I've only seen one teacher let go since I've been here and that was simply because she didn't know if it was Tuesday or Chicago (ironically she was from Chicago, )
With the variety of programs and students the work never gets boring. The staff overall are a good mixture of personalities at both centers and I've never had any problems with anyone. Hope this helps...... |

| A friend of mine, with a Master's in Education, worked at Samsung teaching corporate classes for fifteen months before she went back to the US for good. She liked it, but one of her office mates was a bit hard to get along with, she said. The pay wasn't bad either at 2.5 for her, basically last year. At first, she started out teaching the later classes, but after a month or so she was able to switch to teaching in the day. She seemed to like it a lot more than working in the uni she worked in before she went to Samsung. One more thing I do remember, is that the technical support she received from Samsung as a teacher for managers, who were enrolled full-time in the Samsung English programs, was pretty good. You could do a lot worse in Korea, I think. |
