So I just found out yesterday that my boss is NOT taking money out of my pay check each month to pay for medical insurance because she said "You said you didn't want me to do that." I'm sure the look of surprise on my face confirmed that statement....anyway...

What I want to know now is WHAT exactly I am paying for out of my paycheck. I know I pay taxes and I guess they take out apartment fee's right (like water, etc.). Can someone tell me what the current tax rate is in Seoul right now?

I get paid 2.1 million a month and usually get exactly 1,980,700 deposited in my account. Does that seem about accurate?

And yes I am planning on asking her that myself today but I'd just like to hear from those of you out there first.

Do you get a wage slip? If you were at home would you be happy receiving pay without any breakdown of pay etc or any wage slip? I guess not. You are entitled to check to see if your boss is paying pension, health and tax.

It could be possible that your boss is pocketing 200,000 KRW per month and not contributing anything. Ask for a wage slip with the school's stamp on it. Also you are eligible for a tax rebate and contact the tax office to sort out your tax return.

Whilst you are at it, you could ask the school to provide a statement of earnings (which they are legally obliged to provide) to help with your tax rebate. That should scare your school to show that you are professional.

What do other people think?

Health care is mandatory.

Whistleblower,

I know this is off-topic with this post, but where in the world did you get the hilarious stream? I laughed my head off when I saw it.

Now, regarding the thread. There should be a few things that are actually being paid: (1) Insurance, which the OP already alluded to, (2) Pension, which is required by law, (3) apartment fees that are commonly taken out if the OP is not taking care of their own monthly bills, and (4) cell phone, if the OP has made an arrangement with their handler.

It seems strange that 200,000 KRW would be taken from the check without having all of these misc. charges come into play. I would tend to think someone is pocketing money, but you can find out by asking questions and demanding to see receipts for payments that were supposed to be paid in your name.
