I have a question.

This is my first ever teaching job. I have been here for just under 7 months. My current co-teacher (a bit of a pain) goes on maternity leave at the end of my contract in May 08, and may not return.

I like the school but not my co-teacher.

Anyway, it's a GEPIK p.s. job i.e. the standard 14 day vacation contract.

If you were in my position and you wanted something better for the next contract, if the current school chose to not grant me more vacation time in a renewed contract, what would you do, to get something better than the current contract?

Wait to work in Seoul in September, to get 21 days vacation perhaps, what would you do to get a tangible improvement on the current contract.

I plan to marry in Jan, so I cannot just think of myself. Thanks.

You are aware that you get 14 WORKING days vacation and NOT 14 days.
It works out to 1 day short of 3 calendar weeks.

If you re-sign with the SAME school you will get another 2 calendar weeks at the end of your current contract (making a total of 5 weeks) + you will get airfare home and back (or to a destination other than home IF YOU PREFER).

Yes, you could head for Seoul for your next contract. The chances of getting accepted are excellent if that is your choice.

Thanks. But what could I do between May and September, I don't like the idea of going to Thailand for a few months.

If I went to work in Seoul in September, I'd probably have to do summer camps to stay in Korea, because I'd be married I can't see myself moving back in with my family in England for a long period of time.

I may have to do camps if I chose to work in Seoul.

I apologize for being pedantic ttompatz, but staying at the same school, without extra vacation time granted, would mean a total of 5 calendar weeks vacation for the year, minus 1 day.

I'm thinking about this.

Are you marrying a Korean? Changing to an F2-1 changes the picture.

If you are marrying a foreigner then your options are somewhat limited.

Spending 60-90 days on the beach is a great way to spend your honeymoon.

No, I'm British and I'll be marrying an Iraqi citizen. Is it cheap living in Thailand for that period of time (60-90 days).

I'm ignorant about Thailand, if it's got everything Korea has I may consider taking a break for that period of time there.
