|
|
My contract expires in March and I apparently have to leave within 10 days in order to get reimbursed for my flight.
However, since I'm not on an E-2 visa - I don't want to (nor am I required to) leave the country at that time. I would actually like to leave in May.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like GEPIK or my school will budge on this matter - so I might be stuck. However, I think I found a loophole that will allow me to get my way ....
So I'm wondering, what procedure did you guys go through to get reimubrsed for your return flight? And how soon did you get your money? |

You have to submit the receipt of the flight you bought, in order to get reinbursed.
I've heard somewhere that people buy refundable tickets, show the school, then get a refund. |

You aren't getting your money. According to the GEPIK contract, you only get reimbursed IF YOU RENEW YOUR CONTRACT AND DECIDE NOT TO TAKE THE FLIGHT.
I spoke with Dain Bae and she said that is the only case where you will get your flight reimbursed.
If you find another way then please let me know because I'm in the same situation as you. My school said they can't just give me the money because they need to write off the plane ticket and in order to do that, they need a receipt. |

It's a full fair economy so I would presume that you can buy a full fair economy which are refundable and get the money back.
Don't get stung and buy a non-refundable one though. |

I'm actually planning on buying the ticket, giving the school a receipt - waiting until they reimburse me, then switch the flight date..
Major loophole. I guess I was concerned a boarding pass was required or something. |

Some airlines have a change-of-date penalty fee, others don't. Check before you book. |

Sounds like a big gamble. There are a number of things that could happen.
1. School insists on buying the ticket themselves.
2. They don't reimburse you until AFTER the flight, choosing to do a wire transfer.
3. They want a boarding pass or some other kind of proof that you took the flight. |
