really random question, but just looking for some advice... I've been searching for jobs for ages, but think I'm being a bit too picky now, and really want to get over there. I've never worked in Korea before, so am really struggling to make my mind up about working hours and locations. Can anyone give a little insight into working 6 hours over 8?? Also, I'd really like to teach kindy (i've heard that's ridiculous, i know), and most positions are offering 8 hours for kindy and elementary. Should I go for a 6ish hour job teaching elementary and middle schools, or stick it out with the kids like I'd like? Also, Hansung area or Sports Complex area??
so many questions....would really just like to hear peoples opinions on these things....so send ANY opinion this way.... please |

Teaching 6 hours a day will burn you out. Teaching 8 hours a day is insane. |

It's an employee's market now. Choose your job, pay, and working conditions. |

So far as I've read, standard hours are 22-25 a week, which works out to about 4-5 lessons a day. That's what they'll pay you for; any prep time is off your own back. At least, that's how I think it goes.

Hey, when are you looking to come over? I am looking for my replacement for July/August. I can PM you details if you would like. I teach kids from 6ish to 14. Its a great place, in a great city I am leaving because I member of my family has terminal cancer, so I'm not out for a recruiting bonus.
I wouldn't mind 8 hours provided that there were spare periods included, right now I have six hour days. I'm not going to lie sometimes the days drag, some days fly by, but I would not want to teach more than that.
I note about Kindie, do you speak any Korean? I was looking to teach kindie myself but I couldn't find a position, I am glad now. Some kids are sooo cute but it is very hard to control 12 6 year olds when you don't speak their language. It is very hard to explain games or give instructions of any kind. It wasn't something I considered when I was looking but I am glad for the way that things worked out. |

I agree with Scarlett13 - I teach 6 hours (ages range from cute little ones - age 8 to 14 although sometimes the 8yr-olds act younger than they are)
It flies by but is exhausting by the end of the night. I can't imagine 8 hours! But if there is a couple of breaks in there, that's not so bad... BUT if it's a hagwon, they can fill those spare moments up quickly! If you're looking for an easy-ish set up, I'm looking for my replacement as my contract is up next month. I don't think I can PM though... (not enough posts). My school is pretty laid back. |
