For a while, somebody was doing a version of the The Onion for korea, called The Yangpa (korean word for onion). But since that site hasn't been updated in three months, I decided to start a new one:

http://theyangpa.wordpress.com/

I tried to make the articles as funny as possible. You can check for yourself if was successful. I don't know who's resposible for the original Yangpa or how to get in touch with them, but I hope they're not mad. I'm not trying to rip them off, I just thought it was a good idea and wanted to keep it alive.

And, if anybody wants to join in on it, PM me and we can set something up, like a group blog or something. But I don't want any corny stuff like "Kim Jong Il is Lee Hyori's Father" or something like that. It has to be at least up to the low, low standards that I've set in the first few articles.

That's a darn good start BR.

If inspiration strikes (i.e. next time I get drunk) I'll try to contribute to this new and vital journal.

Thanks eamo. I'm hoping this can be the most popular newspaper that was written entirely by drunk people. Watch out, New York Post!

The Lee Hyori one is brilliant. The original yangpa I didn't think was very funny. I like your approach.

Yeah good stuff, but why blogspot instead of wordpress.com if you're going to go with a free blog host?

The hours of monotonous drudgery living in a Stalinist prison camp are perfectly recreated by watching "Rent."

FWIW, the author of the original Yangpa blog was in hibernation for the winter, however, we've been collaborating with him and the original Yangpa is being overhauled and will be re-released, to be designed, developed, and hosted by Galbijim. No official ETA, as of yet, as it's going to be a little more robust than most blogs, but we'll keep everyone posted here.

Don't forget that N.Korean specific articles should be in a section entitled the Okpa (). N.Koreans don't know/use the word yangpa.

I've been showing your articles to all sorts of people, billybrobby, to much mirth. I've got an article a-brewin', but it's coming along slowly.
