I have to ask my boss for a letter of release so that I can extend my visa while waiting for visa regulation paperwork to come through. He said that he has to give a reason for my release and that immigration could come shut down his hagwon if the reason isn't satisfactory.

What should he write in his letter? I only want to be released a week early.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sure this has been talked about before but the search function didn't turn up useful info.

I got a release letter on November 28. My district is Incheon. The letter gave NO reason for the release and it was accepted by the Immigration officer. All it said was that I'm released from my contractual obligations and am free to seek employment elsewhere. It was signed and dated by the owner and director and myself (written in English and Korean).

This is a great candidate for a sticky thread, as people are constantly asking for this information.
