If you find difficulties in communication with anyone here in Korea, please call 1588-5644. When you press the button that is designated for each of our 17 languages (English, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, German, Portuguese, Arabic, Polish, Turkish, Swedish, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Malay), you are connected with our volunteers who can provide you with instant translation service. If you are faced with an emergency, or find difficulties in communication, please show your BBB card to anyone around you and ask for help. Or, you could take advantage of BBB service for yourself by using a phone. For instance, if you need interpretation in English, call 1588-5644 and then press number “1”, which is assigned to English. Then you will be directly connected to one of our volunteers. Note that BBB service is available only over the telephone."

Looks like a winning service, IMO.

I used it once when I was getting my motor scooter registered.

The guy talks with the volunteer translator for about three minutes
and then hangs up the phone instead of giving it to me for the
translation.

I have no choice but to call again. I told the new translator that the
guy hung up on the last translator and to make sure he told
the guy to hand me the phone. Again there
is a three minute conversation, but thankfully the guy hands
me the phone for the translation:

Come back tomorrow at 2:30 PM.

I used it once, but the translator volunteer I got on the phone was a little rude, on the verge of belligerent.

He raised his voice like he was annoyed and wanted to know how I got his number. I told him I called the BBB translation service, and he asked who gave me the BBB number. He kept acting like he was all put out by my call, and wasn't pleasant in the least. I finally just hung up on him, called the BBB number again and got a more pleasant woman on the phone. She was appalled at the previous gentleman's behaviour. Course, there is no way to know which volunteer he was or his number, so there was no real way to lodge a complaint against him.
