I just bought this camera 4 days ago in Namdaemun. I'm selling it because once I got home I realized it wasn't the camera I had originally set out to buy. Stupid, right? I'll explain:

Canon has two completely different numbering and naming systems for this line of cameras, one for Europe and one for the USA; IXUS and Powershot SD respectively. To make things worse, the model numbers for totally different cameras on the different systems are very similar. this is a quote from one of the top digicam review sites:

Quote:
Canon has announced the new Powershot SD850 IS (IXUS 950 IS) which replaces the SD700 IS (IXUS 800 IS). Confused yet? Whoever comes up with these ever confusing IXUS / SD names really needs to get the US and Europe in sync. The SD700 was the IXUS 800, the SD800 was the IXUS 850 and now the SD850 is the IXUS 950. Every time we publish a review of an IXUS / SD we get dozens of "I'm confused by the numbering, I don't understand" or "you've reviewed the wrong camera" emails.

so you see, it's not just my stupidity at work here. I had been reading reviews online all week trying to figure out which camera to buy, but once I hit the market all those model names and numbers started running together in my head. So, lesson learned, next time I'll be bringing notes.

I bought this camera for 300k won, I will sell it for 260k because I guess now it is technically second-hand, but I really bought it 4 days ago and it hasn't left my apartment. It's going for between 290k and 330k on auction.co.kr and danawa. I would like to take care of this ASAP as I am leaving on Sunday for vacation. I could meet you on Thursday (12/20) around 3 or 4, or Saturday (12/22) any time. I live in Ilsan, near Jongbalsan station on the Orange Line (line 3).

it's a great little camera but I want a wide angle lens. all the original package is included (battery, charger, av cables) but there is no box. here are some reviews:

No, I found it in Namdaemun Market. The price was cheaper than all the others I had looked at, so I didn't really mind the lack of a box.

I have everything that comes standard...Manual, Charger, USB Cable, A/V cable, CD, strap.

And as for the site you linked to, how about tacking on shipping to South Korea:
Subtotal: $247.99
Shipping - UPS Worldwide Express $46.50
Sales Tax 0%
(Collecting sales tax for NY & NJ) $0.00
Grand Total
$294.49 (277,000 won)

although that is still more than I am offering, I will knock it down to 250k won.

I don't think it came with a memory card but I will check when I get home. It uses SD which is cheap. I will also give you the business card of the shop I bought it from, they said they will take care of any repair issues.

What camera did you want to buy originally? The ixus *** series are very similar to each other. Why was there no box?

Sorry, but I'm smelling a rat here...and so close to Christmas. If I'm wrong, my apologies, but could you please answer the questions. This is actually a camera I'm interested in.

BTW- This camera is selling for 280K new WITH a box!

you don't have to apologize, I understand. But I'm not trying to scam anybody here. I meant to buy the newer IXUS 860 (SD 870) which is basically the same camera but with a more wide-angle lens (28mm vs 35mm). I like shooting landscapes and I've heard it's better for that.

I mean if nobody wants to buy this I will happily keep it, from everything I've read it is an awesome camera and it looks great. But I figured I would first try to sell it and get the other one.

I think there was no box because it was imported under the radar or something...( i found it in the area mentioned in the 3rd post down here: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=21431) But it wasn't anywhere near as shady as it sounds. I got it from one counter inside a camera mega-store. it is the American model so it says Powershot SD850 instead of IXUS. I was given a very nice paper bag with handles. Does the container really make a difference?

and also, i should point out that on your link it is selling for 280k without shipping included. after looking online, obviously I got ripped off originally when I paid 300k but I think 250k is a decent price to ask considering I haven't even used the thing.

You'll be perfectly happy keeping that camera. Wide angle is nice, but its a great camera besides that. However, no box = shady business practices. It's probably a well-fiddled-with demo model.

I can't dish out near retail for a second hand camera, but who knows, maybe someone will be willing. I guess you can't return the thing, huh? Tell the guy you want a better model and maybe he will bend.

BTW- shipping a camera in Korea 2500won, but usually free with most of the online companies.

that's good to know, i figured it would be a lot more. for some reason i have been wary of shopping online in korea, but it seems to be where the best prices are on a lot of stuff. thanks.

I would be willing to go down to 240K...

It's weird that you can't simply return it... sounds like you bought it from someone who does not want anything to do with the customer after sale... Shady business... have you tried takin' it back... with receipt o' sale etc...

I had a Korean co-worker call them and they said I could bring it back but they would have to resell it as second hand and would only give me like 180K.
