Hello,

What's the best way to send my laptop home to Canada? I'm looking for the cheapest and safest option. Time isn't really an issue (4-6 weeks is fine). I want protection against damage, but I don't want to pay $200. I'm sending some clothes and was thinking of just wrapping it in those and throwing it on a boat, but that doesn't seem very safe, especially in winter. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Curious:

Why don't you bring it with you when you go?

Also, these days in Canada you can get new PC computers with quite a bit of power for about 700 bux before taxes.

The safest way outside of carrying the notebook yourself would be to use a courier company, as then your item would be insured against damage. However, you'll probably end up paying quite a bit to ship it. I've never shipped a notebook but I've shipped computer stuff and paid over $50 in shipping using UPS or Fedex (can't remember which on I used)

Why ship it? I'm taking mine on board with me on Korean air which allows a backpack plus small briefcase or laptop bag on board as well as a jacket.

Laptops are designed to be portable so you can carry it.

I am actually wondering the same thing. I am going to be backpacking for a few months after Korea and I don't want to carry my laptop around with me.

I sent one airmail to Canada. Took about nine days and got there in working order no problems. It was in a bag with some other stuff and weighed quite a bit altogether so it came to I think 5-8만원 if I'm remembering correctly.

Single man coming from Asia: red flag. Prepare to have your laptop searched for illegal porn. If you have any photos you don't want a customs agent to see, like your GF, then upload them to a web site, zip them and email them to a web email account, whatever.

I got the biggest box they sold at the post office, filled it with sweaters and other shock absorbing garments and stuck my lap top in the middle. I sent the package by surface and it arrived about two months later safe and sound.

I have a friend who left hers in storage at the airport in Thailand while she traveled for a month.
