|

I'm reaching the end of my contract, and I will be starting at a Winter Camp immediately, not going home (I have a F-2 visa). What is the hagwon's resposibility in that case? I've heard others say that their boss will give them 500,000 won instead of a plane ticket, but my boss *really* hates to give teachers money...I've heard previous teachers at my school haven't gotten a cent unless they were in fact leaving the country.
I'm sure my contract states the return ticket is required, but I don't believe it mentions anything about 500,000 won in lieu of a ticket. And knowing my boss, it is going to be yet another in our series of clashes between us (but thankfully...our last). Can anyone help me win this argument?
I have to admit, if my boss insists on sticking to the letter of the contract, there is about a 90% chance I will take the ticket home, leave Dec. 30, spend New Years with friends and family, and buy a ticket back to Korea Jan. 2 so I can start my Winter Camp on time. My willingness to do this despite the massive inconvenience, horrific flying time and large expense of the return ticket should aptly demonstrate just how much I hate my boss and how important it is to me that I win this argument. The thought of this man pocketing more of my money would spoil my New Year's.
Does anyone have some advice for me? |

| See if you can talk your boss into having you buy the ticket... and him reimbursing you. If he goes for it, buy a refundable ticket, show it to the boss, get reimbursed and cash in the ticket. Even if you have to pay a 10% penalty on a refund, you should end up with way more than W500,000 (depending on the cost of flights to where you live). |
