How about a concise question & answer thread about Korean culture? Leave an answer to the previous question and post a new one...
Why do children frequent the smoking section of a PC bang when there are plenty of cubicles available in the non-smoking section? Is it an indication of coolness? Why don't the adults care? |

Because while there may be a mild pre-existing public concern over secondhand smoke there certainly is no history of entitlement to freedom from it, adding to that the fact that non-smoking sections only started a few years ago and you're still as likely to see a smoker sit in the non-smoking section as visa versa so it makes little practical difference - to date.
Why don't so many medium- to high-level English-speaking Korean ESL students know the English words 'squat', 'ginseng', 'archery', 'hot pepper', 'get together', 'gas'? |

Because their Korean Englishee teachers reckoned that those words weren't important.
Why don't Koreans try to listen when you speak to them in intelligible Korean until the third or fourth try? |

^Threadkiller. Noone knows. They're just funny that way. (And (often) our pronunciation and way of expressing ourselves is just weird and wrong).
Here's an easy one: why do Koreans always put their bags on a seat, not on the floor? |

The floor is dirty!!!
Nothing should ever touch the dirty floor, except for your outside shoes...Which can never touch your pristine inside floor.
Why do Korean students hate to take off their jackets in classrooms..."Teacher..I'm hot!" "Take off your jacket.." "Never mind, teacher" |

Why is it when practicing question and answer exercises and I say "Kid X ask kid Y #1" that kid Y asks the question about 70% of the time?
And why do they keep doing it even after multiple repetitions of the same exercise, in the same class, by the same kid X and kid Y?
Sometimes I just have to say "Ask kid Y #1, kid X" which always seems to work. Why is that? WHY!!!! |

Because you need to shave.
Why is it that FXAdam didn't answer the previous poster's question before posting TWO of his own? |

Because he's drunk.
Why do Korean English teachers refuse to discipline kids for saying the word "fuck" even though they know it is very offensive in the English language? |

Because they do not understand the real meaning of the word.
How come at Mr. Pizza or Pizza Hut, the buffet is for everyone at the table but they only give you one small bowl that everyone has to eat from? |

Because, Korea is a communal culture. Meals are meant to be shared.
How come most doors to the outside are not sealed? |

Do you mean not locked, or not insulated around the edges?
If it's not insulated around the edges, it's because stale air can kill you, especially with a fan running. In the winter when the heater is on and in the summer with the air con on, it's proper to open a window. Not having all the cracks in the doors sealed helps ventilate that lethal air.
Why do people walk right up to the subway turnstiles in the middle of rush hour only to stop and dig through their pockets or purse looking for the T-money card while everyone else behind them is blocked from getting through? |

Because reaching your destination is more important than being ready for it.

because that's how they studied in school, which prepared them quite well for a life of wasting time at work.
Why did McD's and Burger King take down all of the menu items except the set menus? |

Because corporations are slick and shiesty and promote excess for profit worldwide. They do it elsewhere too; at some corporate chain restaurants in the US they also try to highlight the oversized sets and tuck the small side items in the corner. Heaven forbid Koreans would order anything that doesn't appear on the menu. The corporations know that and cater to that, and chastise the foreigners with looks of confusion or irritation when they try to order single items.
Why do Koreans have to put gochu garu on eveything and not be able to enjoy the variety of tastes in the world, from bitter to sweet to spicy? Why do they expect all food has to be one way or cast it off as inferior, especially when some of the countries they criticize the national dishes of were the ones that brought the pepper to them in the first place?? |
