I dunno if you've heard, but that's what they are making now. Plus 2 other prequels to Lord of The Rings. Due out 2010 and 2011.

Should be interesting. Very Happy

Is it really really necessary to post the same topic in two different forums? This is ONLY a movie and most of the posters in the CE forum do check out the other forums.

It won't matter who the director is. Jackson is producing. The new movies will be as crappy as the trilogy. Oh, they'll look good, but they'll stink, all the same.

I've still got the hand painted lead figurines from the 1978 animated version of Lord of the Rings. They are above the T.V.

I also have some lead soldiers from The Battle of Waterloo. All hand painted by myself.

Dork.

Haha, I'm actually a pretty big LOTR fan myself, and thought The Hobbit was the best book. It's cool that they're doing it, but I didn't like the guy they choose for Bilbo, so I'm kind of expecting a letdown.

I agree collecting toy soldiers makes me a dork. But anyone who can get throught The Silmarilian would qualify as a fully fledged nerd

Me too, the hobbit should work very well on film as it's not to large a book that to many large chunks will have to be left out.

If you are interested in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, you might be interested in looking into The Kalevala, the Finnish national folk epic. Tolkien said he based much of his writing style and content of his work on The Kalevala. It's a hard read but quite an imaginative collection of work.
