|
|
with the new hoops to jump through, what exactly is "criminal"? is a parking ticket unpaid "criminal"? underage possession of alcohol, in a "sealed" juvenile record (but these things now get unsealed too often) twenty years ago...is this criminal?
i see the term thrown around, but what is the the coordinating authorities working definition of "criminal"? |

adult conviction of a felony
(not a misdemeanor)
it's really quite cut and dry |

I have also been wondering about that definition. Disorderly Conduct here (cops just dont have any sense of humor these days)
Can you please link where you got that definition please.
Thank you. |

In the USA
Felony = 1 or more years you could serve in jail if convicted, usually the more serious crimes.
Misdemeanor = less than a year that you could serve in jail if convicted. |

I'll give you 10 won if you can tell me where to find Google in my Applications folder
It would also be cut and dried to say that all offences except Regulatory Offences should be included in a CRC. |

the meaning of "criminal" will vary base on the thickness of your white envelope handed to korean immi officers. |

Blu-tac...in Korea?
I reckon it depends on who you apply to...I have a caution and was questioned quite a lot on it until they were convinced it wasn't violent or sexual, so I reckon it will be the same situ for the new visa business... |

I have been wondering about the same thing. I am assuming any conviction, regardless of what it is, will be frowned upon.
no room to explain, "well, i could have pled guilty, paid a $40 fine and be done with it, or gone to court 6 times, taking a day off work each time, and fought it and won." The former costing $40, the latter $1000. |

I'm really worried about this.
I want to stay at least another year. My employer wants me to stay another year but I have a criminal record. Is it a blanket policy that ANY criminal offence will mean no visa? |

what kind of criminal record?
if it's not violent, drug related or sex related, I think you might be able to explain your circumstances and get pushed through....
I mean do you have a trespass from 10 years ago?
For example, I have a 15 year old trespass charge from when me and my girlfriend went up on the roof of a hotel and made out (then in high school). Would that keep me from getting an E-2? I don't think so if I had the chance to explain the circumstances.
Also, I have a 13 year old open-container violation - on a public street. This i snot a crime in Korea. I doubt they'd hassle me about it here, if I could explain it properly.
Also, I have about 20 speeding tickets. Most were dismissed. Are they going to care that I was going 89 MPH in a 55 zone? Not if they think it's KPH, hehehe.
Just get a Korean who understands English-e to listen to your explanations of your crimes and see if they can accompany you to wherever it is that your visa interview thing will be processed....
good luck |
