Today I was doing a 'fun' (post-exam) lesson and was kind of disappointed when one student just rested her head on her arm and completely stopped following along. I went over to make her sit up straight and got to hear 'teachah I'm sick' for the five thousandth time in my teaching career. Every single time I teach this class at least one of them is 'appaeyo' but she's never been one of them before - an average level student who at least usually tries. She didn't look very sick but I figured I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. Well, I'm sure glad I did and didn't make her stand or use some sort of punishment to try to make her stay awake because twenty minutes later she suddenly sat up and puked all over her desk. As much of a disruption as that turned out to be at least it's nice to know that they're not always lying. |

Haha. Not in a mean way. A delicate story. |

That's no excuse. When I say, "students, I'm sick, please be good today", they just make me work harder. You should've made her lap up the vomit and gave her extra homework.....j/k |

You know how my Korean co-teacher treated me when my husband had emergency surgery? He would not even let me go home to make a phone call from the landline in my apartment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Koreans only use other nationalities for soldiers in war time and favourable loans in peace time - and, the rest of the time, you are treated like a slave. |

I don't punish them with lines or anything. If they're sick, I make them leave. I also mark them absent, unless they come back the next class with a doctor's note. If they were really sick, they'll have one. If they weren't, then too bad.
I do the same with anyone I have nudge awake more than once in a class. Second nudge is a nudge out the door. See you next class. |
