Hi,
My laptop using wireless detects the network and connects to it but doesn't transfer anything, ie can't go to any sites. I can use my desktop to connect directly to the modem and that works fine, but if I connect by line through the router the internet doesn't work.

Any ideas to what may be the problem? Thanks.

Check your ports. You could have a firewall or router settings set up that are blocking stuff. Make sure port 80 and other relevant ports are not being blocked.

Could be anything, router not set up for NAT, aliens jamming your signal, etc.

you need to provide more information.

Open up a command window and do a

ipconfig /all

turn your router on first.

Then the modem

You should then be able to connect.

I was not able to pin down exactly what the problem was, but a new router with setup run through my newer computer got the internet working again. Before, I was trying to set it up through my old computer on an old router.

Interestingly, when I answer my cordless phone hooked up to my landline, the internet cuts out and is restored within like a minute of after I hang up the phone.

So it was aliens after all!
