|
|
Ok - I'm getting a jump on my paperwork for February. The good news is that background checks are fast in Michigan - the local police use an online service - just pay with credit card and it is pretty much instant. The trick is the apostles. In Michigan there are only 2 offices that do apostles - Marquette and Lansing. According to the officers - you have to present the papers in person and they must be notarized first. Mail may be an option for Lansing, but as they put it - it will take a lot of time. I lucked out and had friends and family (with power of attorney) be able to get all of my paperwork (transcripts and background) finished in 2 1/2 weeks. My suggestion get started early. |

Can you get that online check notarized? I used that service to get a background check for my current job and if you don't have a recorded, it just says no result on very unofficial looking web page. It barely looks like a record check and they don't even provide a printer friendly page to print. I was under the impression that it could not really be used because it would be almost impossible to verify due to the ease of faking it. |

I just did mine for Indiana and went through almost the exact same process, with printing the online criminal check. Basically, the person who notarized my criminal record check simply added the required notary information and a line for me to sign. When he notarizes it, he was simply certifying that this person was indeed me. Notaries are not responsible for verifying any of the on the document itself.
Once the printed out record check was notarized, I had no issue getting is apostilled. In total i got the whole process done in one day, though it certainly helped living within driving distance of the state government buildings. |

what's the point of notarization then if it doesn't verify the information?

A46220, can you PM or email me, we live in the same city and I'm looking to go to Korea within the next few months as well, and would like to hear your experience in getting your documents ready. I haven't posted enough to PM you yet. Send an email to dave46234 at gmail.com.
Thanks. |
