I bought a pile of CDs in 2007
The only one that was released in 2007 was D-Sides by Gorillaz. Which was pretty good if you happen to like them. Which I do so it worked out wonderfully for me.
I downloaded Grinderman's CD, which was also pretty entertaining in a very noisy sort of way.
Other than that, all of the interesting songs I heard in 2007 were on CDs that came out in 2006. |

Eyes Open by Snow Patrol
The album came out in '06 but several singles were released this year including one for Spiderman 3
(and yet I discovered this band through a single in a KB bank Korean t.v. commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajy0w1XPJk8 )
Beauty and Crimes by Suzanne Vega
I might be the only one in South Korea to have her new c.d. but at least a few hundred of you are missing out, her sound has advanced, and I'd say this is her best to date overall, though not in terms of hits. Solid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztt8mJpowbM
From the Plantation to the Penitentiary by Wynton Marsalis
Jazz all over but in the right place with the soaring voice of Jennifer Sanon. Give it ten minutes and it'll steal your heart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imzzWZG0HW8 |

El-P. I'm listening to it right now at the suggestion of a friend. I see that metacritic rates it really highly but I'm just not feeling it. Modest Mouse is excellent though. |

year zero - nine inch nails
the beginning of the end
you'll see us on the belltower,
you'll spot us on the knoll,
you can brand us extremists,
and that's all you'll ever know,
you can order from your oval,
you can drink from your white tower,
you can ignore the voices of the people,
we wish you could stand a little taller.
worn down and wearing suits,
we're finally growing up,
like a wound that starts to fester,
the end is coming soon,
we're going to get your attention,
by any means we can,
hold this lighter to the cloth,
maybe then you'll understand,
yeah, it's the beginning,
and you'll find yourself rewound,
as you dangle by your necktie,
just stories from the ground.
how's this for social insecurity?
as your consensus dwindles,
like the embers of the fire,
we will be there... |
