When contract comes for renewal, I am thinking about popping over to Shanghai..
...what is it like and can a teacher get a decent salary and save? What is the night/social life like?
Cheers |

No, but Shanghai is IN China, unlike Seoul, which is in Korea. This is the general discussion form... for life in Korea.
For life in Shanghai, perhaps try the travel forum, or like the other poster said, the China forum. |

He actually said the 'China Thread', which I couldn't find.
As for the China forum, well I thought I would ask for advice from teachers in Korea, as it is Korea that I would be comparing it to, therefore their advice would be most valuable. It is not a travel query either, as it is a query about life and work in Shanghai...
...in fact, it fits nicely into the GENERAL FORUM! |

General Discussion Forum
Forum for general discussion on issues related to *living* in South Korea |
A thread about Shanghai obviously fails to meet the above criteria. |

Well, I will resist the urge to find numerous examples of your stated rules not being met.
If I were to go on to the China Forum and post, "How would you compare Shanghai to Korea?", do you think I would be told to sod off and go to the Korea forum? |

Haha a little defensive?
If I look at your OP, I see your thread title which only says Shanghai.
Then the actual post says this:
"When contract comes for renewal, I am thinking about popping over to Shanghai..
...what is it like and can a teacher get a decent salary and save? What is the night/social life like?

I don't see the word compare anywhere. You don't mention Korea at all, except that you will possibly be leaving. You are only asking for information about Shanghai.
Now if a comparison is what you are truly after, perhaps you should consider how you word your question, before you get angry at us for pointing out that it is off topic. |

So instead of actually discussing the topic people waste space and time arguing that it's in the wrong forum. Cool! |

This is what happens to 90% of threads.
I guess that although we wouldn't like to admit it (what with most of us being well travelled, cultured, educated, bright things ) a place to safely argue and b1tch is what we all really need! All under the pretence of serious, witty, informative and intellectual discussion of course! |

if...if you can find a place with decent wages. korea, generally pays much better than in china. most china posts pay less than 1000 US per month. over in china things are much more loosey goosey. the best paying jobs want you to be illegal. shanghai is the wild west whereas korea is old school establishment. |

shanghai is not just a city, but more importantly- an SEZ. a special economic zone. and wordplay aside, SEZs are different than the rest of china. ordinary chinese folks just can't move there (in theory). they need to have permits. |
