If you were happy at your workplace but they refused to give you a pay rise at contract renewal time, what would you do?

If your job was good or very good overall and better than many other workplaces but your school/academy/uni/other workplace refused to give you a pay rise at contract renewal time, would you stay or go?

If I were happy and content, I would stay another year without pay raise. The quality of your life in a job is more important than taking 100 to 200 more won somewhere else.

It would depend on my current salary.

I think the second choice is the only answer.

When I first came to Korea, I was a bit naive to say the least. My first hagwon job was okay and I was content enough despite some crap. I didn't get a pay rise after the first year and didn't really expect one. On the other hand the hagwon was doing badly and could scarcely afford it anyway.

However, if an employer refused to give me a rise at renewel nowadays it would be difficult to take. I think it shows a bit of a lack of appreciation for one's efforts (I always take my jobs very seriously).

If you don't get a rise despite having more experience, you are in effect working for less the next year as prices are going up all the time and expected to do so more rapidly in the future. That can't be right surely?

Well, if the job paid well enough to begin with, it wouldn't be a big deal to me.
