Anyone else?
My coteacher just called in the middle of my camp lesson to inform me that for the sixth time in less than 8 months (excluding getting the visa in the first place) I need to prove that I really graduated.
WTF is wrong with these dumb asses?
I said, "I've done this SIX times! I already have the visa. WHAT is the problem?"
"I know, I know. All of us are complaining about it, but please do it." |

Tell them to go to hell. Having to show proof of your qualifications after they have presumably been checked when you entered the country AND by the school when you got the job is quite enough.
Theres only so much idiocy people should have to endure.

I finally printed out four copies.
I gave one to whomever wanted it, left one on my coteacher's desk, gave one to the secretary and threw one in my desk.
Damn idiots. |

These repeated demands for proof of my qualifications were part of the reason why I finally quit Public School last year. They (the GEPIK beauracacy) seem to be totally unaware that these requests create a real feeling of distrust between korean & foreign teachers at public schools.

Well, my principal clarified because I was so frustrated I said (in Korean), "I have done this six times! Why don't they believe me?"
He showed me the edict, which came from the BOE. He claims that ALL teachers needs to reprove that they're real teachers.
Still, I have done this for GEPIK and the Anyang BOE multiple times (at least that's the excuse they give me) so WHAT is the point?
Can you imagine if you just took over a class and said, "I'm sorry, you all have to prove to me that you turned in your homework from six months ago. I know grades [visas] have already been posted, but now I need to see it." |

That's a great idea-why not do it, with a full explanation why-unless you teach elementary-even then you can do that with grades 5 and 6. Get the students and parents complaining to administration.
ps DON'T DO IT BOYZ |

My response would have been:
"Fine. Here it is... (scribble scribble)... I quit." (walk out and don't look back) |

Were I on anything other than an E2, and were I not really needing to save money right now, I would have.
But I'll be home in less than 6 months and I NEED my deposit, severance, etc. |

you don't actually think they would have let you leave, do you? You have to put your foot down and they will relent. "Quitting" is the hardest way to put it that foot down. In this particular game of chicken, they would have backed off faster than you think. |

Why are documents requested so often? Can't whoever keeps ahold of them keep them from getting lost? |

I just play along that it is important and say I will bring whatever they ask for "tomorrow", but I try to put off actually providing them stuff if I have already given it to them before. This way they are the ones who have to go through more hoops. They eventually stop asking me and they don't feel there is opposition to providing it to them when and if it were to become an issue. |
