Hughes v. GSP: Hughes, decision. Hughes has had months to train for this fight and he's been putting some strategy to use.
Silva v. Liddell: I love Chucky boy, but I'm probably going to hand this one to Silva by TKO or decision.
Lister v. Radev: Lister. TKO, 2.
I don't know enough about most of the other fighters to make a qualified guess.

I thought GSP would win but I didn't think he would dominate Hughes that bad.
They are going to try and have GSP v.s Serra in Montreal this April. Hopefully Serra will be able to fight by then.
They announced Sylvia v.s Nog for the HW "interim" title. |

Yep, that was an extremely one-sided fight. Hughes looked like it was his first fight the way he was getting slammed around by St. Pierre.
The Liddel fight was interesting too. |

Watching GSP body-slam Hughes in the full mount really amused me. Smart strategy, sure, but funny. |

The Liddell/Silva fight was great. I bet on Silva, but was real happy to see Liddell back in fine form. There was a lot of smack talk on the Internet over the past few weeks about how Liddell would get 'retired' by Silva. Judging from his post-fight interview, retirement hasn't even crossed his mind. |

I was looking for a thread to make my picks ('cause I'm usually right) but I somehow missed this one (which I think must have appeared at the last minute ...
After watching the Korean broadcast pre-show highlighting Silva's two KO wins against their common opponent, Quenton "Rampage" Jackson - who KO'd Liddell twice, I was a little surprised that Chuck was the slight favorite in the Vegas line.
Of course, he was much better known to casual UFC fans, who (like me) hadn't seen many of Silva's great wins in PRIDE.
That's also probably why they promoted the Hughes-GSP match much more in the U.S. and made it the "main event", while in the more PRIDE-familiar Korean market the Liddell- Silva match was featured more prominently.
Anyway, I was afraid that Silva would win, but I was rooting for Liddell so I wouldn't have bet it (unless Liddell was the underdog...)
It was a brutal match of two warriors with the younger one prevailing.
I thought that Liddell won a close first round, but Silva was clearly winning most of round two until he was struck with a sharp elbow and some big punches that did some damage near the end of the round.
Silva showed he was still strong and very dangerous, but he really started to look kinda old and a bit too slow as he survived the third round.
I think that I would have picked Eddie ("Dirty") Sanchez to score an upset win - especially if I had known that he'd be motivated by a perceived pre-fight insult by Sao Palalei...
I learned by watching Emile Griffith literally kill Benny "Kid" Paret (who had called him a "fag") in the ring that it's not a good idea to unnecessarily piss off an opponent right before a fight...
Apparently, Palalei had only given Eddie credit for "having a nice smile" when interviewed at the weigh-in. So Sanchez angrily asked what he thought about his smile now as Sao got his face smashed and bloodied in defeat...
George St. Pierre showed excellent wrestling skills and superior overall talent. Plus, he classily noted that he wouldn't be the real champ until he defeats Matt Serra... |
