Just wondering if anyone could tell me where the happening New Years Parties are in Seoul this year. This will be my first New Years here so any help would be Fab.

| Go to the Jonggak/Cheonggyechon/City Hall area for free fireworks, tons of people and all the roman candle dodging you can handle. Wear a hat to keep black embers off your head and out of your eyes. |

What time do they usually get going for that?
Do subways stay open later on New Years Eve? I'd imagine catching a cab is nearly impossible. |

| Fireworks right at midnight, but people will be shooting off their own all evening. I caught the subway soon after the fireworks last year before 1am, but don't know the closing time. |

| In all my yhears living here, I've never went up there and fought the crowds just to watch someoen ring a bell and shoot off fireworks. If you have seen fireworks once, trust me, you have seen them all. I'd rather do something better. |

It's a fun experience and it's free. It's better than paying money to listen to a sub-standard dj and crap music. Beer on the street costs 33% of the beer in the clubs, and with so many people around, you still get rubbed by honies' asses just trying to walk by. Ajossi asses, too, don't forget those, princess. |

i went to jonggak for the bell-ringing and fireworks for new year's 8 years ago and will never go back.
the crowd was huge, no one could move of their own volition, you just went where crowd went. when crowd fell down, i fell down too. my wife and i got separated, and crushed. when crowd fell down, i ended up under about 6 layers of people and eventually lost consciousness. someone pulled me out, and i guess someone pulled my wife out too, 'cause she was there and shaken when i was able to stand up again.
a 7-year-old kid got crushed to death that night in the same crowd.
i'm not so fond of crowds now.

One of the expat mags said the subways will be closing at 2 am. If you can fit on them.
I'm being horribly indecisive. Some friends are going to Insadong, but I don't really want to deal with get crushed by the crowd, or freeze while I search for my friends in the mess, or find a bar nearby afterwards that has room to stand in. Itaewon is good for barhopping, but there's better music in Hongdae.
I think it's going to come down to: where are the guys going to be that I want to kiss at midnight? |

That's terrible, especially the litle 7 year old boy dying. I just don't think seeing a bell being rang nd seeing fireworks is worth all this, no to mention it will be FREEZING tomorow night. I'm thinking of going out omorrow afternoon and hibernating at home tomorrow night, to stay warm. After being here on and off for over 6 years, I've learned where and where not to go to avoid massive crowds. I love the city, but not massive crowds. I once got crushed in Myong dong because my friend and I went down a street where some workers' party was protesting. So, if I see a major crowd, I go the other way now. |
